Movement Switching from keyboard to Mouse - HELP!
Hello,
I have been monking my entire guildwars career and I have always been told that movement by mouse is far superior for kiting then by keyboard. So, I tried it and I do feel it is better. However, Now I am left with the problem of figuring out how to execute my skills because until now ive always executed them via mouse. But now it seems I must use my keyboard to execute the skills I want. And I was wondering if there are any monks out there that are willing to shed some light and help me learn how to make this switch and if there are any hotkey sets they would be willing to share with me to make my job easier. Right now I am currently set as: Keys Q,W,E,R,A,S,D,F = Skills 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 I do not have any way of adding party selection support. If anyone could help I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks in advance, ~Tim |

i prefer the mouse because u can run by holding the right and left clicky and when ive tried using the keyboard for skills my fingers are too clumsy and i hit two skills on accident, and ive never had any problems monking at all i dont see why you would stray from using the mouse

I use the default setup and move by holding down W to run forward and the right mouse button to turn with the mouse. I set the 4 most important skills in the first 4 slots and activate them with the 1-4 keys. The other 4 skills i usually activate with the mouse.

I do the same as madman. If you are using the mouse for movement just keep your fingers on or near the 1-4 keys and you should do fine.

I use WASZ to move ,QE to strafe, 1-8 for skills, and the numpad 1-8 to target party members. F to cancel the spellcast (diversion incoming for example). Mouse to rotate and zoom out, or select the far skills (6-8). F1-F4 to switch weapons.

I move using WASD, hold down the right mouse button to strafe, which is pretty much always the case, and then select party members while kiting by clicking on their name in the party window. To cast I use 1-4 for seldom-used skills, F for primary energy management, R for my main healing skill, Q for condition removal, and E for my second most-used healing skill.
I try to keep the general function of each button the same no matter what monk build I'm using. |

Here's how I monk it up when I'm using keyboard only
Movement: Classic WASD movement along with the QE strafe keys. Party Targeting: Numpad. Though the numpad is numbered from bottom to top ascending, I number my party from top to bottom descending. So, where the keypad would have these numbers on it: | 7 | 8 | 9 | | 4 | 5 | 6 | | 1 | 2 | 3 | My party is set to the same keys as so: | 1 | 2 | 3 | | 4 | 5 | 6 | | 7 | 8 | 6 | I use both Num3 and Num6 for party member 6 because sometimes my finger slips to 3 accidentally when I'm trying to quickly hit 6 for an infuse. My index/middle/ring fingers hover over keys 4-6 so I can either reach up to select party members 1-3, or reach down to select party members 7 and 8. I put 7 and 8 on the bottom because it's a lil harder to to scrunch my fingers downward to select those keys than it is to reach up. As an infuser I'm usually party member 8, so that leaves only party member 7 as someone slightly difficult to infuse. Which leads me to skills Skills: Skills 1-4 are on keyboard numbers 1-4, and are my least used spells. Skills 5-8 are on my right hand near the numpad. 5-6 are the arrow keys:LEFT, DOWN, and RIGHT, and I use my right thumb for all of those. Skill 8 is the enter key on the numpad, and is where I put infuse. I can always keep my pinky finger on the Enter key no matter what other button i'm trying to press, so this way all I have to worry about is hitting the right party member then I slap an infuse with my pinky finger. For vent and TS or w/e, if you use push to talk, I use the UP arrow key for push to talk because it's the only place I could think to put it and it's convenient. You could put it on spacebar, but I use spacebar a lot when I'm on other characters, and changing the options settings each time I infuse is troublesome. For cancelling skills I have the ~ key set to cancel action, the Esc key is too far away to quickly hit in the nick-of-time sometimes when someone casts a Diversion on you midcast. I only ever have two weapon sets active when I monk it up, my main weapon and my -energy weapon set. So with only two weapons, you can just use the toggle weapon key instead of just selecting a specific one. I have both F1 and F2 set to toggle weapons, which makes it twice as easy to toggle. Hit it once, you switch to your -energy weapon, hit the same key again and you're back to your original weapons, The Mouse The mouse is still needed in GW no matter what, you need it to select the Ghostly Hero and also to un-maintain enchants like Holy Veil, as well as a few other things. So I try and keep my mouse cursor hover over the ghostly hero's healthbar, or over the spot where a holy veil would show up if I cast it. Teh screenshots Btw here's how I have my screen UIs set up. I have pretty much everything clumped up in one spot so I can see it all at once when monking. Teh End With this setup I can have a good two hand keyboard set up that won't interfere with when I play other types of characters. I actually made up an uber leet monking keyboard set a while back, but it's impracticle and troublesome if you're playing anything BUT a two-hand keyboard monk. I made a few changes after I made this pic I'll post, but here it is anyway. BTW I would in no way recommend this speficic setup unless you're a crazy monker addict, but it can give you some ideas on different creative ways to use the keys around you. PS: Dun know if this thread is still kickin. I tried to post earlier but Comcast goes out on me every once in a while because it's trash like that... |
